Since he was 8 years old, Saunders has had an interest in martial arts and has trained accordingly. He has a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu, training under Ricardo Liborio. Saunders has won many jiu-jitsu tournaments as well as being a Combat Fighting Welterweight Champion. He names Bruce Lee as one of his heroes and prefers a kick to the head for striking when going up against an opponent in UFC.
