UFC 97 Results

  • Anderson Silva (champion) defeated Thales Leites via unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 50-46)      UFC Middleweight Championship.    This was a boring fight, they’re going to come up with somebody to give Silva a challenge. Lietes had nothing to concern Silva

  • Mauricio “Shogun” Rua defeated Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell via TKO (strikes) – Round 1, 4:28.  After this loss I think it’s clear to everyone that its time for the Iceman to retire.

Flex Magazine lists the top 10 hardest hitters in the UFC

This is their list:

10 – Houston Alexander
9  - Anthony Johnson
8  - Shane Carwin
7  - Rashad Evans
6  - Thiago Alves
5  - Brock Lesnar
4  - Chuck Liddell
3  - Quentin “Rampage” Jackson
2  - Wanderlei Silva
1  - Anderson Silva

I can’t argue with Anderson Silva at #1, but I’m a little surprised that Brock Lesnar and Rampage Jackson aren’t sitting right there at #2 and #3 because both of those guys hit like they have 50 pounds of cement in each hand.

Thoughts on the list?

Get ready for GSP -vs- Anderson Silva in December 2009

The French – Canadian star, fresh off the back of his successful welterweight title defence against lightweight champ BJ Penn at UFC 94, will step up to the 185lbs division to take on Best Pound 4 Pound fighter in the world Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva — if he sees off the challenge of Thiago Alves.

UFC sources claim GSP is likely to defend his title against 25-year-old Alves in June, but after getting knocked out by lyota Machida does he really deserve it?

While Silva puts his middleweight crown on the line against fellow Brazilian Thales Leites at UFC 97 in Canada.

And if The Spider, 33, and St Pierre, 27, are both victorious they will be offered a mega fight against each other at the end of this year. Which will be sure to max out the rating’s of any other UFC PPV event.

For the time being, St Pierre has his sights solely set on successfully defending his welterweight strap against rising star Alves.

The Pit-bull Alves has already beaten world class top-ranked fighters including UFC hall of famer Matt Hughes, Josh Koscheck and Karo Parisyan, so St Pierre will not take him lightly.

Hopefully this fight goes ahead, because it will be without a doubt the best fight in the history of the UFC and Im just praying for it to happen!
